The Process

To the Parents or Guardians of prospective students, this will be our process:

1. Introductory Conference

Our first step will be a meeting to discuss the needs of your student and to identify some clear goals. We will discuss a checklist of student assessments and interviews. We will also discuss fees for assessment and an hourly rate for tutoring. If we decide to proceed with new assessments, I may ask you to provide information from the most recent assessments completed by your student’s classroom teacher or reading specialist. If your student has a current IEP (Individual Education Plan) or other education plan, I may ask you to provide that as well.

2. Assessment Sessions

We will schedule a time or times for me to meet with you and your student to begin the work described above.

3. Assessment Results and Report Sharing

After the assessment meetings are done, I will ask you to allow up to 72 hours (3 business days) for me to complete my initial report. We will then schedule a meeting to go over the assessment results. If we decide that tutoring for your student is appropriate, we will establish a weekly schedule of tutoring sessions as well as an estimate of the number of sessions that your student will need. We will also finalize our fee agreement and establish a payment schedule. To reinforce the importance of our work I will ask that we all (you, me and your student) sign an informal agreement regarding the above.

4. Tutoring Sessions

If we establish a tutoring agreement, all tutoring sessions will occur, face to face, in my home office. You are welcome to be present the entire time for any tutoring session. When your student is comfortable with me and our work setting, you may choose to observe sessions through Zoom from another location. A private Zoom link unique to your student and our sessions will be made available to you. Your observation of tutoring sessions is entirely your option. For safety reasons, if your student is to be dropped off and picked up, you will need to sign certain permissions like those needed by your student’s school. Each session will be one-hour.

5. Periodic Conferences

We will hold brief conferences, either weekly or bi-weekly, to discuss your student’s progress and establish new goals for tutoring if needed.
